Mike and I were out today on a solo trip, working some technical fly fishing in the back country. We saw saltwater crocodiles and watched drug planes circling overhead looking for smugglers, which is always kind of interesting. We also saw tons of black drum stacked up along the way.

Mike was amazing. First time he'd ever picked up a fly rod in his life, and within twenty minutes, in that same stretch of backwater in Pumpkin Bay, he caught a tarpon, a snook, and a redfish. A grand slam. Never fished before. I've never seen it before in my life.

What's Working

  • Technical fly fishing in the backcountry
  • Pumpkin Bay producing tarpon, snook, and redfish all in the same stretch

Captain's Take: If I was Mike, I would get married immediately and go play the lottery.
